The TCU Concert Chorale, conducted by Christopher Aspaas, will perform this Sunday afternoon at FUMC Fort Worth. Our program, Dance On! Sing Praises!, weaves the ideas of dancing, singing and praise throughout, and includes several works also specific to Palm/Passion Sunday.

Two extended works anchor each half: Benjamin Britten’s Rejoice in the Lamb; and, Invocation and Dance by David Conte. Rejoice in the Lamb is a setting of poetry by Christopher Smart (18th century poet) that he wrote while confined at St. Luke’s Hospital for Lunatics. The text creatively explores the ways in which all creation praises God, and Britten uses the organ and soloists from the choir to create an amazing and expressive experience. Invocation and Dance, an amazing work for piano four-hands (played masterfully by Janet Pummill and Amy Stewart) and choir, is a setting of the poetry of Walt Whitman from his When Lilacs Last in the Dooryard Bloom’d, an elegy written after the assassination of Abraham Lincoln. The first part (Invocation) slowly and mysteriously calls, “Come, lovely and soothing death…” with pulsating rhythms and vibrant harmonies. The second part (Dance) sets the text “Praised be the fathomless universe… for life, joy, love sing praise!” with bouncing rhythms in mixed meters.

We are excited to share two premieres: a setting of the beloved Auld Lang Syne by School of Music faculty member, Till Meyn; and, Christopher Aspaas’ setting of the Shaker song “Followers of the Lamb” entitled, Sing On! Dance On! Additionally, we will sing works by J. S. Bach, Jean Berger, Finnish composer Jaakko Mäntyjärvi (inspired by the Swedish chef), Stanford Scriven and John Ferguson.

March 17 Devotional

Dear Friends,
To be known and understood is one of the great desires of all people.  Yet, we also know that if you really knew me, how could you love me, much less die for me?  This is why Holy Week is so very important for our Christian journey.  It’s a reminder that Christ knows us, loves us and died for us so that we might have life and have it abundantly!  Rejoice, give thanks and be loved!  Peace and Love, Scott

Come To Me For Understanding, since I know you far better than you know yourself.  I comprehend you in all your complexity; no detail of your life is hidden from Me.  I view you through eyes of grace, so don’t be afraid of My intimate awareness.  Allow the Light of My healing Presence to shine into the deepest recesses of your being-cleansing, healing, refreshing, and renewing you.  Trust Me enough to accept the full forgiveness that I offer you continually.  This great gift, which cost Me My Life, is yours for all eternity.  Forgiveness is at the very core of My abiding Presence.  I will never leave you or forsake you.

When no one else seems to understand you, simply draw closer to Me.  Rejoice in the One who understands you completely and loves you perfectly.  As I fill you with My Love, you become a reservoir of love, overflowing into the lives of other people.

March 14 Devotional

Dear Friends,
My wife and I love to camp.  I know many of you enjoy the benefits of getting out of the house, getting away from it all and just relaxing in the great outdoors.  It could be at a beach, on a mountain or just at a campsite somewhere in mother nature.  Why is this so good for the soul?  I think it reconnects us with God.  We are forced to simply sit and “be”.  So, even if you can’t get away for a day or two, find a place to hear God speak and to “be still and know”…peace and love! scott

Do Not Hesitate To Receive Joy From Me, for I bestow it on you abundantly.  The more you sit still in My Presence, the more freely My blessings flow into you.  In the Light of My Love, you are gradually transformed from glory to glory.  It is through spending time with Me that you realize how wide and long and high and deep is My Love for you.

Sometimes the relationship I offer you seems too good to be true.  I pour My very Life into you, and all you have to do is receive Me.  In a world characterized by working and talking, the admonition to rest and receive seems too easy.  There is an intricate connection between receiving and believing: As you trust Me more and more, you are able to receive Me and My blessings abundantly.  Be still, and know that I am God.

Dear Friends,
I love today’s devotional!  It comes at the perfect time when feelings of being overwhelmed are creeping in.  As Holy Week approaches, we are all digging deep to stay healthy, stay alert and to stay the course.  In this way, we truly share the cross with our Savior, Jesus Christ.  Lean on our Heavenly Father for strength and guidance.  Be blessed dear ones!  Hug and Love, Scott

Walk By Faith, Not By Sight.   As you take steps of faith, depending on Me, I will show you how much I can do for you.  If you live your life too safely, you will never know the thrill of seeing Me work through you.  When I gave you My Spirit, I empowered you to live beyond your natural ability and strength.  That’s why it is so wrong to measure your energy level against the challenges ahead of you.  The issue is not your strength but Mine, which is limitless.  By walking close to Me, you can accomplish My purposes in My strength.

March 9 Devotional

Dear Friends,
I love the phrase, “a cushion of calm”.  That’s what living a Christ-centered life provides.  Calm in the midst of the storm.  Perhaps you’ve seen variations on the 1939 poster from Britain “Keep Calm and Carry On”.  I have yet to see a t-shirt or poster that said “Keep Praying and Carry On” or “Keep Christ and Keep Calm”….But, that is what God is calling us to do.  May you be blessed and find the quiet calm in your life today!  Hugs, Scott

Rest In My Radiant Presence.  The world around you seems to spin faster and faster, till everything is a blur.  Yet there is a cushion of calm at the center of your life, where you live in union with Me.  Return to this soothing Center as often as you can, for this is where you are energized: filled with My Love, Joy, and Peace.

The world is a needy place; do not go there for sustenance.  Instead, come to Me; learn to depend on Me alone, and your weakness will come saturated with My Power.  When you find your completeness in Me, you can help other people without using them to meet your own needs.  Live in the Light of My Presence, and your light will shine brightly into the lives of others.

March 8 Devotional

Dear Friends,
Ah.  Daily discovering the will of God.  This can be tricky!  Today’s devotional is clear about one thing as we strive to do the will of God.  “Seek me first and the rest will fall into place!”  Still a bit vague if you ask me, but a good start!  Peace and Love, Scott

Save Your Best Striving For Seeking MY FACE. I am constantly communicating with you. To find Me and hear My voice, you must seek Me above all else. Anything that you desire more than Me becomes an idol. When you are determined to get your own way, you blot Me out of your consciousness. Instead of single-mindedly pursuing some goal, talk with Me about it. Let the Light of My Presence shine on this pursuit, so that you can see it from My perspective. If the goal fits into My plans for you, I will help you reach it. If it is contrary to My will for you, I will gradually change the desire of your heart. Seek Me first and foremost, then the rest of your life will fall into place, piece by piece.

March 7 Devotional

Dear Friends,
What a great day of worship we all had yesterday!  Sunday morning, Sunday afternoon (the new Family Experience) and finally, Harvest America with 100K worshippers and thousands of souls coming to Christ.  What a day!  And all of heaven rejoiced!  Even as wonderful as all of this was, we each had our own battles to overcome personally.  But, God was with us and was our constant helper.  The prayer I often say is “God, I’ve done my best.  The rest is up to you.”  And, I give it to God.  May you be blessed as you “give it to God” today and every day.  Peace and Love, Scott

Let Me Help You through this day.  The challenges you face are far too great for you to handle alone.  You are keenly aware of your helplessness in the scheme of events you face.  This awareness opens up a choice: to doggedly go it alone or to walk with Me in humble steps of dependence.  Actually, this choice is continually before you, but difficulties highlight the decision-making process.  So,consider it all joy whenever you are enveloped in various trials.  These are gifts from Me, reminding you to rely on Me alone.

Psalm 63:7-8 Because you are my help, I sing in the shadow of your wings.  My soul clings to you; your right hand upholds me.

James 1:2-3 (AMP) 2Consider it wholly joyful, my brethren, whenever you are enveloped in or encounter trials of any sort or fall into various temptations. 3Be assured and understand that the trial and proving of your faith bring out endurance and steadfastness and patience.
