November 12th Devotional

Dear Friends,
I think this is a fitting devotional as we come to the close of our “Be Rich” series, don’t you!?  Indeed, we are blessed beyond measure and our cup runneth over with love from our heavenly Father.  Believe, receive and give as you have received.  “For God so loved you, that he gave…our world, our abundance, our life.  He gave his Son.  What shall we give in return?  Be blessed in this my beloved ones.  Peace and Love, Scott

This Is A Time Of Abundance in your life.  Your cup runneth over with blessings.  After plodding uphill for many weeks, you are now traipsing through lush meadows drenched in warm sunshine.  I want you to enjoy to the full this time of ease and refreshment.  I delight in providing it for you.

Sometimes My children hesitate to receive My good gifts with open hands.  Feelings of false guilt creep in, telling them they don’t deserve to be so richly blessed.  This is nonsense thinking, because no one deserves anything from Me.  My kingdom is not about earning and deserving; it’s about believing and receiving. 

When a child of Mine balks at accepting My gifts, I am deeply grieved.  When you receive My abundant blessings with a grateful heart, I rejoice.  My pleasure in giving and your pleasure in receiving flow together in joyous harmony.

November 5th Devotional

Dear Friends,
I have said before that as true Texans, we never say “no” to the rain.  We always need it as we are almost always deficient in our lakes, rivers and streams.  So, I thank God for the rain these past two days.  Unfortunately, my roof has sprung a leak that the rain clearly revealed yesterday.  Water does what it will and goes where it will–down my garage wall as it created a small stream on the floor of my garage.  It could have been worse of course.  So, my circumstances surrounding my gratitude for the rain may be somewhat tainted, yet I still give thanks for all things.  Best of all, God is with us.  Thanks be to God!  Peace and Love, Scott

You Can Live as close to me as you choose.  I set up no barriers between us; neither do I tear down barriers that you erect.

People tend to think their circumstances determine the quality of their lives.  So they pour their energy into trying to control those situations.  They feel happy when things are going well, and sad or frustrated when things don’t turn out as they had hoped.  They rarely question this correlation between circumstances and feelings.  Yet it is possible to be content in any and every situation.

Put more energy into trusting Me and enjoying My Presence.  Don’t let your well-being depend on your circumstances.  Instead, connect your joy to My precious promises: 

I am with you and will watch over you wherever you go.  I will meet all your needs according to My glorious riches.  Nothing in all creation will be  able to separate you from My Love.

Philippians 4:12 12 I know what it is to be in need, and I know what it is to have plenty. I have learned the secret of being content in any and every situation, whether well fed or hungry, whether living in plenty or in want.

15 I am with you and will watch over you wherever you go, and I will bring you back to this land. I will not leave you until I have done what I have promised you.”

November 4th Devotional

Dear Friends,
Often walking with God means watching, waiting and basically doing “nothing”.  Sometimes doing nothing is something!  In our impetuous world of instant gratification, waiting is very much a foreign concept for most people.  Hope that today you find time to do something by doing nothing with God.  Peace and Love!  Scott

Walk Peacefully With Me through this day.  You are wondering how you will cope with all that is expected of you.  You must traverse this day like any other: one step at a time.  Instead of mentally rehearsing how you will do this or that, keep your mind on My Presence and on taking the next step.  The more demanding your day, the more help you can expect from Me.  This is a training opportunity, since I designed you for deep dependence on your Shepherd-King.  Challenging times wake you up and amplify your awareness of needing My help.

When you don’t know what to do, wait while I open the way before you.  Trust that I know what to do, wait while I open the way before  you.  Trust that I know what I’m doing, and be ready to follow My lead.  I will give strength to you, and I will bless you with Peace.

Exodus 33:14 14 The LORD replied, “My Presence will go with you, and I will give you rest.”

November 3rd Devotional

Dear Friends,
We all experience “setbacks” once in a while.  Some are major setbacks, while others seem to be minor.  Disappointments are simply a part of life for everyone, but for the Christian, even during our temporary disappointments, we can still have faith and know that God has a plan for us.  Be blessed during these opportunities to grow in your faith and know that God is in control.  Hugs and Love, Scott

Every Time something thwarts your plans or desires, use that as a reminder to communicate with Me.  This practice has several benefits.  The first is obvious: talking with Me blesses you and strengthens our relationship.  Another benefit is that disappointments, instead of dragging you down, are transformed into opportunities for good.  This transformation removes the sting from difficult circumstances, making it possible to be joyful in the midst of adversity.Begin by practicing this discipline in all the little disappointments of daily life.  It is often these minor setbacks that draw you away from My Presence.  When you reframesetbacks as opportunities, you find that you gain much more than you have lost.  It is only after much training that you can accept major losses in this positive way.  But it is possible to attain the perspective of the apostle Paul, who wrote: Compared to the surpassing greatness of knowing Christ Jesus, I consider everything I once treasured to be as insignificant as rubbish.Colossians 4:2 

2Devote yourselves to prayer, being watchful and thankful.

Philippians 3:7-8 
7But whatever was to my profit I now consider loss for the sake of Christ. 8What is more, I consider everything a loss compared to the surpassing greatness of knowing Christ Jesus my Lord, for whose sake I have lost all things. I consider them rubbish, that I may gain Christ.

October 31st devotional

Dear Friends,
 
I’m amazed at those who offer counsel to others.  Pastors, Counselors, friends and family who listen and offer advise to others are indeed walking on holy ground.  My wife, Cheryl, is an elementary counselor at Boren elementary here in Mansfield.  First of all, I could NEVER do her job.  She is simply amazing at what she does and how she handles each situation.  Sometimes she tells me that she does not know where the words come from when she’s helping a student in need, but the right words come out at the right time and a student is blessed by them.  She knows and we all know that she is living in the Spirit at that precise moment.  Beautiful!  So, read today’s devotional and do your best to live in the Spirit at all times.  Hugs and Love, Scott

Learn To Listen To Me even while you are listening to other people. As they open their souls to your scrutiny, you are on holy ground. You need the help of My Spirit to respond appropriately. Ask Him to think through you, live through you, love through you. My own Being is alive within you in the Person of the Holy Spirit. If you respond to others’ needs through your unaided thought processes, you offer them dry crumbs. My streams of living water flow through you to other people. Be a channel of My Love, Joy, and Peace by listening to Me as you listen to others.
