Learn To Live above your circumstances.  This requires focused time with Me, the One who overcame the world.  Trouble and distress are woven into the very fabric of this perishing world.  Only My Life in you can empower you to face this endless flow of problems with good cheer.

As you sit quietly in My Presence, I shine Peace into your troubled mind and heart.  Little by little, you are freed from earthly shackles and lifted up above your circumstances.  You gain My perspective on your life, enabling you to distinguish between what is important and what is not.  Rest in My Presence, receiving Joy that no one can take away from you.

John 16:33 (KJV)  33These things I have spoken unto you, that in me ye might have peace. In the world ye shall have tribulation: but be of good cheer; I have overcome the world.

John 16:22 22So with you: Now is your time of grief, but I will see you again and you will rejoice, and no one will take away your joy.

March 7 Devotional

Dear Beloved Friends,
It’s good to be reminded that we are not alone.  Dependence on God is a good thing!  Embrace the power that is freely given and “sing in the shadow of His wings”.  Be blessed!  Love and Hugs, Scott

________________________________________________
Let Me Help You through this day.  The challenges you face are far too great for you to handle alone.  You are keenly aware of your helplessness in the scheme of events you face.  This awareness opens up a choice: to doggedly go it alone or to walk with Me in humble steps of dependence.  Actually, this choice is continually before you, but difficulties highlight the decision-making process.  So,consider it all joy whenever you are enveloped in various trials.  These are gifts from Me, reminding you to rely on Me alone.

Psalm 63:7-8 Because you are my help, I sing in the shadow of your wings.  My soul clings to you; your right hand upholds me.

James 1:2-3 (AMP) 2Consider it wholly joyful, my brethren, whenever you are enveloped in or encounter trials of any sort or fall into various temptations. 3Be assured and understand that the trial and proving of your faith bring out endurance and steadfastness and patience.

60 lbs in 6 Months! How I Did It!

Some of you may have noticed that I’ve lost a little weight in the last several months.  First of all, let me assure you this was totally intentional.  I’ve struggled with weight issues all my life.  I still struggle, but at this time in my life, I feel as if I have a little more control over what goes in my body and how I treat it.  Your body is a temple–a gift from God.  Good stewardship of the body honors that gift and God!  Plus, you feel better and are healthier.  Talk about “win-win”!  I credit the impetus for my lifestyle change to a conversation with my dad in September 2012.  He, in his mid 50’s, got diabetes, but controls it with medication and diet.   I thought I would do a preemptive strike against this terrible disease.  So, there’s the background as to “why”.  Here’s the “how”….

HOW?  Notice that I said “lifestyle change”.  Fad diets and pills don’t work long term.  You have to find a routine that works for you.  Something you can do the rest of your life. This may take a bit of trial and error.  The important part is to NOT QUIT!  Now, what I’m about to tell you is stuff you probably already know.  Diet and exercise.  Sound familiar?  It’s not rocket science.  It starts with what you eat and drink.  Make sure that whatever you eat has nutritional value.  If it doesn’t, reconsider eating it.  I’m going to outline the things that are good for you and the things that are bad for you.  You may not agree with them all, but this is by no means comprehensive or definitive.  This is just what works for me.  It may not work for you.  Find something that gives you the results you want.

I’m a “Flexetarian”.  This is a brand new word that just got added to Websters dictionary.  A Flexetarian is someone who mostly follows a Vegetarian lifestyle, but occasionally eats meat.  I like protein just like anybody else, but there are healthier ways to get protein in my diet.  For example, I can eat a beef burger (30 grams of fat) or a turkey burger (5 grams of fat) which also happens to have MORE protein than the beef!  Here are the do’s and don’ts:  First, the “Do’s”

  1. Load up on fruits and vegetables.
  2. Eat fat-free snacks. (I always have pretzels, carrots and rice cakes nearby)
  3. Eat fish, nuts, beans, legumes etc.

Here are the things to avoid.  The “Don’ts”:

  1. Avoid eating fat.  Have a little, but simply watch the number of fat grams you consume.  It’s all on the label.  Read it and make a conscience choice on how you want to get your fat.  You are what you eat!  Fat makes you fat!
  2. Avoid eating processed foods. processed sugar and flour are not good for you.  Sorry!  That really knocks out a lot of food that most people eat.
  3. Sodas and Salt.  Don’t drink sodas and never add salt.  You get plenty of salt from other sources without even trying.  It’s everywhere and in everything!

That’s pretty much it!  I do take a multi-vitamin on occasion when I think about it.  I enjoy coffee in the morning and a glass or two of red wine at night.  LOTS of water during the day.  I eat a piece of fruit in the morning, a pretty decent lunch and a light dinner.  I snack during the day on fat-free stuff.  This works for me.  Find something that works for you.

Exercise!  Again, find something that works for you.  An hour a day (I do 5 days a week at this time) I like low impact, therapeutic activities.  I do the elliptical for 45 min and swim for 30 min.  Nothing too intense, but I work up a good sweat.

So, here I am.  I’m still working on my routine and diet.  Not sure where I’ll wind up so far as weight etc.  I feel great though!  Listen to your body and find a lifestyle that works for you.  Keep me in your prayers so that I might stay on the path of the straight and narrow way.  The leaner, healthier way!  Blessings Friends!

March 6 Devotional

Be blessed dear friends as you continue your daily walk with God.  Along this path, you will stumble and fall.  We all do.  Jesus is there to pick you up, dust you off and give you a little nudge to get you going again.  The important thing is to NOT QUIT!  Keep on keeping on.  Your prize awaits!  Peace and Love, Scott

Continue On This Path With Me, enjoying My Presence even in adversity.  I am always before you, as well as alongside you.  See Me beckoning to you: Come!  Follow Me.  The One who goes ahead of you, opening up the way, is the same One who stays close and never lets go of your hand.  I am not subject to limitations of time or space.  I am everywhere at every time, ceaselessly working on your behalf.  That is why your best efforts are trusting Me and living close to Me.

Hebrews 7:25 25Therefore he is able to save completely those who come to God through him, because he always lives to intercede for them.

Psalm 37:3-4  3 Trust in the LORD and do good; dwell in the land and enjoy safe pasture.  Delight yourself in the Lord and he will give you the desires of your heart.

March 5 Devotional

Dear Friends,
Indeed, we all have problems.  No one is immune to them.  However, Christians are called to react to life’s problems completely opposite of the world.  We don’t have “pity parties” or play the “blame game”.  Instead, we thank God for the difficulties in our lives and trust Him to help us work through them if it is His will not to remove them.  This is radical thinking and totally rocks the world of non believers.  So, I say “Rock On”!  And be blessed as you trust His unfailing love for you.  Peace, Love, Hugs, Scott

_________________________________________
Make Friends With The Problems In Your Life.  Though many things feel random and wrong, remember that I am sovereign over everything.  I can fit everything into a pattern for good, but only to the extent that you trust Me.  Every problem can teach you something, transforming you little by little into the masterpiece I created you to be.  The very same problem can become a stumbling block over which you fall, if you react with distrust and defiance.  The choice is up to you, and you will have to choose many times each day whether to trust Me or defy Me.

The best way to befriend your problems is to thank Me for them.  This simple act opens your mind to the possibility of benefits flowing from your difficulties.  You can even give persistent problems nicknames, helping you to approach them with familiarity rather that with dread.  The next step is to introduce them to Me, enabling Me to embrace them in My loving Presence.  I will not necessarily remove your problems, but My wisdom is sufficient to bring good out of every one of them.

Romans 8:28 (AMP) 28We are assured and know that [God being a partner in their labor] all things work together and are [fitting into a plan] for good to and for those who love God and are called according to [His] design and purpose.

1 Corinthians 1:23-24 23but we preach Christ crucified: a stumbling block to Jews and foolishness to Gentiles, 24but to those whom God has called, both Jews and Greeks, Christ the power of God and the wisdom of God.

March 4 Devotional

Dear Friends,
I love this devotional.  It’s human nature to worry and fret over things for which we have no control.  Work hard, do your best and leave the rest to God!  Read on for words of wisdom and inspiration.  Peace and Love, Scott

____________________________________________
Refuse To Worry! In this world there will always be something enticing you to worry. That is the nature of a fallen, fractured planet:Things are not as they should be. So the temptation to be anxious is constantly with you, trying to worm its way into your mind. The best defense is continual communication with Me, richly seasoned with thanksgiving. Awareness of My Presence fills your mind with Light and Peace, leaving no room for fear. This awareness lifts you up above your circumstances, enabling you to see problems from My perspective. Live close to Me! Together we can keep the wolves of worry at bay.

Luke 12: 25-26 “Who of you by worrying can add a single hour to his life? Since you can not do this very little thing, why do you worry about the rest?

1 Thessalonians 5:16-18 Be joyful always, pray continually; give thanks in all circumstances, for this is God’s will for you in Christ Jesus.
