December 9th Devotional
Dear Friends,
Ministry, if done with your whole heart and soul, is, by its very nature, RISKY! Ministry involves a great deal of self-sacrifice. Giving up one’s personal desires to fulfill someone else’s is a part of ministry. Giving time, talent, resources and energy is a risky part of ministry. What if we’re rejected? What if it all was a big waste of time? What if no one shows? Yesterday, many of us risked life and limb to sing, play and serve at our morning services. Not all could make it due to their icy conditions, but many of us could. The worship leaders outnumbered the 8:15 congregation yesterday! Never seen that before! We all just acted on faith. We showed up and we knew that no matter what, Christ would show up too. The Spirit was warm in our toasty sanctuary. I think we were all glad that we took the risk and made it to church. Thanks for your prayers for those who stayed home! And now, we’re off to an exciting week as we prepare to minister to over 5K attendees at our Mansfield Christmas Spectacular. Sure it’s risky–but we’re not alone. Christ goes before us. Peace and Love! Scott

Be Willing To Go Out On A Limb with Me. If that is where I am leading you, it is the safest place to be. Your desire to live a risk-free life is a form of unbelief. Your longing to live close to Me is at odds with your attempts to minimize risk. You are approaching a crossroad in your journey. In order to follow Me wholeheartedly, you must relinquish your tendency to play it safe.Let Me lead you step by step through this day. If your primary focus is on Me, you can walk along perilous paths without being afraid. Eventually, you will learn to relax and enjoy the adventure of our journey together. As long as you stay close to Me. My sovereign Presence protects you wherever you go.
Psalm 23:4
4 Even though I walk through the valley of the shadow of death, I will fear no evil, for you are with me; your rod and your staff, they comfort me.
Psalm 9:10 10 Those who know your name will trust in you, for you, LORD, have never forsaken those who seek you.
John 12:26 26Whoever serves me must follow me; and where I am, my servant also will be. My Father will honor the one who serves me.

Dear Friends,
Sometimes, I have trouble concentrating while I’m praying. Does this ever happen to you? As many of you know, I do my morning prayers while doing laps in the Y pool on Cooper street. It’s usually pretty quiet (at least when your ears are in the water) and I can concentrate pretty well as I feel the warm water rush over me. But even in that serene place, I sometimes have trouble concentrating on my daily prayers. I’ll start, but then get distracted by something else heavy on my mind. Sometimes I try to fight it, other times, I just work it out in the water. Lots of people and things struggle for out attention, but our time with Jesus is sacred time and must be carved out of any other problems and business we might be going through. Actually, Jesus LOVES our problems, so bring them all to Him and have the blessings and peace that only He can give. Love, Scott

Do Not Be Surprised by the fiery attacks on your mind. When you struggle to find Me and to live in My Peace, don’t let discouragement set in. You are engaged in massive warfare, spiritually speaking. The evil one abhors your closeness to Me, and his demonic underlings are determined to destroy our intimacy. When you find yourself in the thick of battle, call upon My Name:”Jesus, help me!” At that instant, the battle becomes Mine; your role is simply to trust Me as I fight for you.
1 Samuel 17:47 47 All those gathered here will know that it is not by sword or spear that the LORD saves; for the battle is the LORD’s, and he will give all of you into our hands.”
Philippians 2:9-10 (AMP) 9Therefore [because He stooped so low] God has highly exalted Him and has freely bestowed on Him the name that is above every name,10That in (at) the name of Jesus every knee should (must) bow, in heaven and on earth and under the earth,
My Name, properly used, has unlimited Power to bless and protect. At the end of time,
every knee will bow (in heaven, on earth, and under the earth), when My Name is proclaimed. People who have used My Name as a shoddy swear word will fall down in terror on the awesome day. But all those people who have drawn near Me through trustingly uttering My Name will be filled with inexpressible and glorious Joy. This is your great hope, as you await My return.Ephesians 6:12
12For our struggle is not against flesh and blood, but against the rulers, against the authorities, against the powers of this dark world and against the spiritual forces of evil in the heavenly realms.1 Samuel 17:47 47 All those gathered here will know that it is not by sword or spear that the LORD saves; for the battle is the LORD’s, and he will give all of you into our hands.”
Philippians 2:9-10 (AMP) 9Therefore [because He stooped so low] God has highly exalted Him and has freely bestowed on Him the name that is above every name,10That in (at) the name of Jesus every knee should (must) bow, in heaven and on earth and under the earth,
1 Peter 1:8-9
8Though you have not seen him, you love him; and even though you do not see him now, you believe in him and are filled with an inexpressible and glorious joy,9for you are receiving the goal of your faith, the salvation of your souls.Daily Devotional from “Jesus Calling” by Sarah Young

Dear Beloved,
The first words Jesus said to His disciples after he was resurrected was “Peace be with you”. As the disciples hid in fear for their lives, Jesus knew exactly what they needed–Peace! As we, His disciples, go about our daily lives, it’s easy to loose focus on what’s really important. Our relationships with family, friends, and most importantly, our Lord and Savior, are what truly matters the most. As you walk with Christ, peace will come over you and permeate all you do and say. Joyful living and everlasting peace be with you and yours now and always. Love and Peace! Scott

I Am The Prince Of Peace. As I said to My disciples, I say also to you: Peace be with you. Since I am your constant Companion, My Peace is steadfastly with you. When you keep your focus on Me, you experience both My Presence and My Peace. Worship Me as King of kings, Lord of lords, and Prince of Peace.
You need My Peace each moment to accomplish My purposes in your life. Sometimes you are tempted to take shortcuts, in order to reach your goal as quickly as possible. But if the shortcut requires turning your back on My peaceful Presence, you must choose the longer route. Walk with Me along paths of Peace; enjoy the journey in My Presence.
Isaiah 9:6
6 For to us a child is born, to us a son is given, and the government will be on his shoulders. And he will be called Wonderful Counselor, Mighty God, Everlasting Father, Prince of Peace.John 20:19-21
19On the evening of that first day of the week, when the disciples were together, with the doors locked for fear of the Jews, Jesus came and stood among them and said, “Peace be with you!” 20After he said this, he showed them his hands and side. The disciples were overjoyed when they saw the Lord. 21Again Jesus said, “Peace be with you! As the Father has sent me, I am sending you.”Daily Devotional from “Jesus Calling” by Sarah Young

Dear Friends,
One of my favorite stories is “The Christmas Carol”. For some reason, I was thinking about it this morning and the scene at the end of the story when Mr. Scrooge awakens from a rather difficult evening (to say the least!) on Christmas Day. The joy of simply being alive is enough to say “thank you God for another day”. And even though life can certainly get tough, rough and downright sad, if we can focus on the beauty and sacredness of simply living and being with God, somehow, the day becomes brighter and lighter. Be blessed on this day and every day! Give thanks to God as I give thanks to God for each of you. Peace and Love, Scott

This is Is The Day That I Have Made! As you rejoice in this day of life, it will yield up to you precious gifts and beneficial training. Walk with Me along the high road of thanksgiving, and you will find all the delights I have made ready for you.
Psalm 116:17 17 I will sacrifice a thank offering to you and call on the name of the LORD.
To protect your thankfulness, you must remember that you reside in a fallen world, where blessings and sorrows intermingle freely. A constant focus on adversity defeats many Christians. They walk through a day that is brimming with beauty and brightness, seeing only the grayness of their thoughts. Neglecting the practice of giving thanks has darkened their minds. How precious are My children who remember to thank Me at all times. They can walk through the darkest days with Joy in their hearts because they know that the Light of My Presence is still shining on them.
Rejoice in this day that I have made, for I am your steadfast Companion.Psalm 118:24
24 This is the day the LORD has made; let us rejoice and be glad in it.Psalm 116:17 17 I will sacrifice a thank offering to you and call on the name of the LORD.

Dear Friends,
After pastor Mike’s sermon yesterday, this devotional reminds me of some of the points he made regarding giving thanks, thanking God for all things–big and small and keeping your focus on what you have and not on what you don’t have. Having an attitude of gratitude certainly makes for a much brighter day, regardless of one’s circumstances. May you pray without ceasing today and every day as you give thanks for the abundant blessings He has poured out on you and yours. Peace and Love, Scott

Thank Me Frequently as you journey through today. This practice makes it possible to pray without ceasing, as the apostle Paul taught. If you are serious about learning to pray continually, the best approach is to thank Me in every situation. These thankful prayers provide a solid foundation on which you can build all your other prayers. Moreover, a grateful attitude makes it easier for you to communicate with Me.
When your mind is occupied with thanking Me, you have no time for worrying or complaining. If you practice thankfulness consistently, negative thought patters will gradually grow weaker and weaker. Draw near to Me with a grateful heart, and My Presence will fill you with Joy and Peace.
1 Thessalonians 5:16-17 (KJV) 16Rejoice evermore.17Pray without ceasing.
James 4:8 8Come near to God and he will come near to you. Wash your hands, you sinners, and purify your hearts, you double-minded.
Romans 15:13 13May the God of hope fill you with all joy and peace as you trust in him, so that you may overflow with hope by the power of the Holy Spirit.
